Carrie’s Story: A Volunteering Trip that Changed Her Life

Facebook Instagram   Carrie is passionate about helping people and their livelihoods. She started her community building work by setting up a charity which trains underprivileged women in Singapore for sustainable employment. She gave up her comfortable job to do this. Carrie says, “In 2007, I volunteered in India at a shelter for abandoned girls in India. There, I encountered female infanticide, babies killed by desperate parents simply because they were girls.” “That drove me to think about those who are marginalised and how I can help them.....

Faishal’s story: Believe in People

Facebook Instagram   A block of 5-room flats, all lit up in the evening, each a picture of family bliss. But one of them is pitch dark. Faishal, then a young PAP activist, knocks on the door. Two kids answer. “Hello uncle! We’re playing with candles!” In fact, the family can’t afford to turn on the lights. This was the 2001 recession, and their parents had lost their jobs. Faishal had organised a donation drive and was delivering donated provisions to families like theirs.....

Louis’ story:  Every Kid Deserves a Childhood

Healthcare Hub of the North

Yishun is the healthcare hub of the North. 2 hospitals- Khoo Teck Puat Hospital for general acute care and Yishun Community Hospital for rehabilitation. Yishun Polyclinic has been expanded. There will be one more polyclinic near Khatib MRT by 2023. The hospitals and polyclinic work with the community to help residents stay healthy. Elderly residents can learn new skills, exercise and socialise at three new “wellness kampungs” and several new senior activity centres. Goodlife!@Yishun even has Singapore’s first free aromatherapy and massage service for seniors and caregivers.....
