MP Kwek Hian Chuan Henry shared thoughts on his state visit to Poland and the Czech Republic.
The state visit, with President Tony Tan, Minister S Iswaran, Minister Josephine Teo and fellow MP Sun Xueling, was from May 21st to 27th 2017. It was the first state visit by a Singapore Head of State to Poland.
The trip furthered collaboration in business and education between Singapore and both countries, with six Memoranda of Understanding signed. President Tony Tan also jointly opened the Poland-Singapore Business Forum, and visited Singaporean businesses in these countries.
MP Kwek recounted his meetings with Singaporeans chasing unconventional dreams in Poland, rapper Dharni Ng and violinist Tiffany Tan. He admired their dedication and even pledged to help Dharni Ng link up Singaporean and Polish rappers.
He also noted that in meetings with foreign government and parliamentarians, they often ask about and express admiration for Singapore’s form of economic, social and political development.
He said that given the charming tourist attractions in the Czech Republic, “There is ample room to encourage direct flights between Singapore and Prague, which will benefit Singapore and improve business and people connectivity between SEA and Czech Republic.”
