Getting a haircut for Chinese New Year? Might be a simple errand for you, but some residents can’t afford it or can’t get to the salon without help.

On 8 Jan 2017, some Chong Pang residents, including those from low-income households, had their hair cut for free. With the help of nine volunteer hairdressers, they emerged feeling more confident and ready to face the new year. Some of the younger kids got their ‘back to school’ haircuts too. The event, called Project Trim!, was organised by members of PAP Chong Pang branch at Blk 107 Yishun Ring Road.

Volunteers took the opportunity to chat with the residents while waiting for their haircut. A hearty lunch was also provided and they went home with some mandarin oranges for the Lunar New Year.

Minister K Shanmugam, MP for Chong Pang and Nee Soon GRC dropped by to greet the residents and volunteers. He even sportingly got his hair cut to support the hairdressers and the event.
