What’s Quacking: Guide to Chong Pang’s Duck Rice

Taking a short walk around the buzzing Chong Pang City, you can’t help but start to notice the number of Duck Rice food stores popping up at every corner. Either the long queue of eager hungry people or the rows of charred-red glistening crispy roasted meat will definitely catch your eye. (Wow, just salivated reading that line). There are definitely stalls we missed out on and trust us when we say we wanted to try them all but our tightening belts suggested otherwise. Do let us know on Facebook what other stalls should be added to the list. Now let’s get quacking! Here’s our Chong Pang Duck Rice Guide.

    Choo Chiang Roast Noodle House
Blk 101 Yishun Ring Road #01-93
    1 1a

At the corner of Blk 101 just diagonally from the 7-11, this well-patronized food stall has filled the stomachs of many a roast meat lovers. As the no-nonsense aunty hands me my serving of duck rice, I can’t help noticing how incredibly juicy the meat looks. Tender with crispy skin over a mountain of rice doused in sauce, it really is the epitome of comfort food.

Jing Ma Che (H.K) Roasted Porridge Noodle House
Blk 101, Yishun Ave 5
    22a

Located just opposite Chong Pang camp, it is a well-loved staple to the army personnel. This stall serves up steaming plates of duck rice boasting thick cuts of meat with perfectly crispy skin. And the one that ties it all together is the sauce; dark, rich and smokey.  Now that’s a dish to rally the troops.
    Fushan Roasted Delight Noodle House
Blk 101, Yishun Ave 5 s760101
    33a

Just a little walk down from our first entry, this other contender is located at the centre of Chong Pang City. For those looking for a plate of duck rice that will make you feel less guilty about not popping that Lipitor, look no further. Though still touting thick cuts of meat, the sauce is a lot lighter and they are very generous with their cucumber. Thumbs up for healthy eating… somewhat.
    Chuan Kee Boneless Braised Duck
Blk 105 Yishun Ring Road, Chong Pang Market & Food Centre, #01-159
    44a

Yes, I know this is braised duck rice and not like those above which are “roasted” but it’s not fair to write up a Chong Pang duck rice guide and not include this. The long queue of hungry food goers is hard to miss and self-explanatory. The thin slivers of tasty duck meat is just right for a harmonious mouthful of herbal rice, sweet sauce and crunchy cucumber. Take a sip of steaming hot soup before diving back into that glorious plate.
