Nee Soon Remembers Mr Lee Kuan Yew

On 26 March 2016, Nee Soon residents remembered our founding father Mr Lee Kuan Yew at a carnival in Nee Soon Central. The Chingay carnival focused on the values that Mr Lee stood for and the multi-cultural community that we have built. Residents were captivated by the colorful floats from the Chingay parade, stilt walkers, outdoor movie screening and performances. Last year, over 15,000 Nee Soon residents came together to pay tribute to Mr Lee (read more here).....

Work starts on Canberra MRT station

On 26th Mar 2016, a groundbreaking ceremony was held for the future Canberra MRT station. Canberra station will be on the North-South Line between Yishun and Sembawang, only the second station to be added to an existing line in the history of Singapore’s MRT. When completed in 2019, it will benefit residents in the north of Yishun, including many in new residences there. Other recent transport improvements in Yishun include the launches of bus 805 and City Direct bus 670.....

He said that Mr Lee had ordered the estate built for civil servants. Back then, Kebun Baru was literally “baru” (new)- an undeveloped town. When the civil servants moved in and found that it was hard to go to work by public transport, Mr Lee, ever the problem-solver, arranged a shuttle bus to take them to and from the city every morning and morning.....

by Suresh Nair Turning Singapore into a “Garden City” was one of the causes the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew was most committed to. So much so that he didn’t miss a single Tree Planting Day in 51 years. Mr Lee planted his first tree in June 1963 to kick-start the national effort for tree planting. The Mempat tree was planted in the middle of a roundabout – neither the tree nor the roundabout is there now because the Farrer Circus site was affected by road projects in the mid-1970s.....
