Derrick Goh grew up in a modest family, living in a two-bedroom flat in Balam Road. He gave tuition to put himself through university. Despite challenging circumstances in his early years, he did well in school and entered the finance industry. He worked in senior roles overseas for many years, but never forgot the opportunities that Singapore gave him. In 2007, he and his wife decided to return home so his children could grow up with Singaporean values.
In 2008, Derrick joined DBS. He was head of POSB from in 2012 to 2014. When he led the “People’s Bank”, POSB expanded its outreach in the heartlands and rolled out sit-down queues for the comfort of the elderly and young families. Part-time elder staff were hired to help elderly customers with electronic banking and ATMs were equipped to help the visually handicapped.
During this period, he worked with many community organizations and witnessed how they help people. This inspired him to start volunteering in organisations such as the Southwest Community Development Council, HomeTeamNS and the National Library Board. He has also been serving residents in Yishun since 2017.
